Trimark Aquaculture Centre Wins $100,000 at Sanitation Challenge 2019

Trimark Aquaculture Centre won the ultimate prize for Private Partnerships with MMDAs at the prestigious Sanitation Challenge Awards 2019, held at Marriot Hotel in Accra.


Out of the 14 competing businesses,the Kumasi based aquaculture centre was adjudged the most promising private enterprise in finding innovative approach to sustainable wastewater optimization.


Trimark Aquaculture Centre was established in 2017 with key focus on wastewater reuse for aquaculture to provide protein-rich catfish for hotels, restaurants and populace in the Kumasi metropolis.


The award winning Trimark Aquaculture Centre, in partnership with ViaWater- Aqua to All, IWMI, GCIC, Waste Entreprisers and Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, have carried out proven research in sustainable use of wastewater for fish farming to reduce organic load in repository water systems.


The founder and centre director; Mark Yeboah-Agyepong and Suzette Emefa Sey; production manager were happy to have been recognized in this year's Sanitation Challenge and have set their eyes on bigger achievements in the near future and also upscale to other potential treatment plant to expand their scope in the sustainable management of liquid waste in Ghana.


This remarkable feat underscores the need for scientists and businesses to explore trends in sustainable use of ecological resources.


The sanitation challenge is supported by Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, IRC-Ghana, UKAid, Ideas to Impact, IMC Worldwide, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Maple Consult.
